The Bible:
The Greatest Book in the World

I recently read about Fr. Joseph A. Fitzmeyer, a Jesuit who had said in an address in Ireland, that there has been a remarkable return to the Bible in Catholic Life. Father is a professor emeritus of biblical studies at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He said an encyclical by Pope Pius XII on biblical studies encouraged the emergence of the Catholic Biblical Movement in the mid-1950s.

There is no book that compares to the Holy Bible. It is holy because it contains the word of the Lord. We are asked to place it in a special visible spot in our home. In other words, don’t hide it in a drawer or on a back shelf. Have it in an area where it is easily obtainable. We are encouraged to pick it up, read it and pray. It should be read together with the family and read by oneself at quiet times for personal spiritual reading.

The Bible is the greatest book in the world. The word bible means “the book.” God is the author, and therefore it contains no errors. Make sure your children have their own Bible early in life. It makes a beautiful spiritual book for any occasion—be it Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, a birthday, Christmas, Easter or another special day in their life. No better book of personal spiritual reading can be found. Keep the Word of God alive in your home. Read the Bible!

St. Michael the Archangel

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into Hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
