Aloha and Welcome

We welcome all of you, parishioners and visitors, on this Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Thank you for sharing part of your day with us.  Let us join hearts and voices as we give honor and praise, glory and thanks to our God as we celebrate today’s liturgy.  Have a great week!

Our Riches in Christ

All of today’s readings are lush and luscious.  They  fairly drip with flavor and favor.  And they are perfect for summer’s doldrum days.  They remind us not only that God has great riches to share with us, but that we have great riches to share as well. As followers of Jesus, our job is to recognize how incredibly rich we really are, and to dip into our riches to share with others.

First, we have a splendid story to share, a story whose “once upon a time” stretches back to the very dawn of creation.  Filled with fantastic characters and events, our story’s plot weaves its way through the lives of a chosen people; comes to a crescendo in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus; tumbles along through the Christian era, gathering as it goes the teachings, customs, and rich rituals of the church.  Like all great stories, our story is not finished; it is still being written, still being told.  Share the story.

We also have a feel for the hallowed around us and among us.  In even the most ordinary of days and seasons, people and events, things and actions, we seem able to recognize the extraordinary among us.  We know that there is more to life than meets the eye, that all things around us are somehow charged with God’s own electricity.  Share that rich sixth sense; share the holy.

Recognizing that all things are God-touched, we also possess a sense of gratitude for the bounty that surrounds us.  Realizing we are gifted, we know how to give thanks.  And we do give thanks for  all things, the bright and the beautiful, the bleak and the bare.  Appreciate, and we share the appreciation. In addition, our church roof is in needy repair and termites are taking their toll on our annex building used for Religious Education classes.  Please be as generous as you can in helping us.  Mahalo nui loa!!!!  May the Good Lord who gives all reward you a hundredfold.
