A DOGMA OF OUR FAITH

On Nov. 1, 1950, Pope Pius XII defined as a dogma of our faith the bodily assumption of the Virgin Mary into heaven:

“We proclaim, declare and define it to be a dogma revealed by God that the Immaculate Mother of  God, Mary ever Virgin, when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven.”

Our Holy Father declared: “truth of this dogma is based on Sacred Scriptures”, that is, on the Scripture’s teaching on the holiness and dignity of Mary, and the resurrection of the body.

Mary’s bodily assumption into heaven is a reminder that our bodies too will be assumed by the power of God, and reunited with the soul on the last day… of the general judgment, to share with the soul in the reward or punishment of our deeds.

“Sweet heart of Mary, be our salvation!”

St. Michael the Archangel

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into Hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
